Pakistan is struggling with Chinese arms as China made missiles has stopped working in Pakistan. This LOMAD missile is completely shut down which is very rare and dangerous. Chinese scientists has arrived to check the fault that how it has been handled by Pakistan. It is the matter of huge concern for Chinese scientists and a great humiliation for them. On one side China claims itself as world leader and trying to develop new technologies to present itself as emerging super power but on the other side , its missiles are stopped working they are like wastage for Pakistan now. Also, China is now making Pakistan to be responsible for this technical fault.
Pakistan purchased this China missiles in order to counter India's growing air defense capabilities. Pakistan purchased this low to medium altitude Air defense system (LOMAD LY 80) on March 12. LOMADS LY 80 is Capable of intercepting aerial targets flying at low and medium altitudes. Pakistan was the only country to purchase that missile system in 2014. LOMADS was rejected by almost 16 to 18 countries including Myanmar and Bangladesh. In fact , many African countries refused to purchase that missile mentioning it old and outdated. But , Pakistan bought this in the name of friendship with China and common enemy India as China claimed its air defense to be enough to tackle India. AS a result, The Pakistan Ministry of defence production signed a deal to purchase 3 LY 80 and sex more LY 80 later for $500 million dollar between 2014-15. LOMADS LY 80 was completely failed during Balakot air strike incident. The main reason of its failure is its low range 40km which is claimed by China but it is around 15km actually.
The Malfunctioning of LOMADS would be of great concern to Pakistan considering Balakot incident where it failed miserably when Indian air force fighters hit terrorist camp in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in February 2019 and returned safely.
