In this COVID pandemic situation , there is a new bad news for India as  Zika virus outbreak has been taken place in India.

A case of Zika virus which is transmitted by the Aedes mosquitos reported in Kerala state. A 24-years old pregnant woman from Parassala in Thiruvananthapuram got positive for Zika virus and she is under.13 more suspects of Zika virus case are under observation and their samples have been sent to the National Institute of Virology in Pune for confirmation.

The woman approached to the hospital for treatment on June 28th with symptoms of fever, headache and red spots. From the initial examination at the hospital , she was believed to be Zika positive which got confirmed after the test. At present , her condition is stable and she has delivered a many on 7th July. Baby may face some difficulties or complications so both are under observation. 

The notable fact about this case is that woman has no travel history even outside the state. Her house is located close to the Kerala - Tamil Nadu border. As a result , officials of district surveillance , vector control unit and state entomology unit has taken majors to restrict the expansion of virus. Samples of Aedes mosquito were collected  from the local area and have been sent for the PCR testing and close. other district are on alert regarding zika virus.


What is Zika virus?

Zika is a viral infection spread by mosquitoes biting. The Aedes aegypti mosquito is responsible for zika. It can also be spread through intercourse with infected person. It does not spread through air like corona. 





Zika virus symptoms:

symptoms of Zika virus are:
  • fever
  • headaches
  • red spots
  • rashes
  • joint pains
  • muscles pains
  • red eyes

note: most of the persons does not get any symptoms or get very mild symptoms

zika virus treatment:

As of now there is not any specific treatment or vaccine of Zika virus. Just like COVID we can get cured by symptomatic treatments.

we can be safe by treating symptoms , bed rest , Drink water or fluids , regular contact with doctors.


Origin of Zika virus

for the first time, Zika virus was discovered in Uganda in 1947.

  • avoid mosquito bite
  • avoid unprotected intercourse

Zika virus transmission:

  • Zika virus is mostly transmitted by mosquito bites and insect bites.
  • it can be transmitted through intercourse.
  • It can also be transmitted to the baby through the foetus of pregnant woman.
